1. General Member Notes
We are really building something awesome together!
We are aiming to create an open prototyping workspace on campus that revolves around recycled plastic. I’ve spoken with nearly all of you and I can say with confidence that every member is smart, motivated, and a valuable asset. It’s a large project, but every single contribution is a step forward, and we have the team to make this happen!
We definitely still have a long way to go, but I want to acknowledge that this is shaping up nicely and thank you all. :)
2. Machine Shop Update
We’re not ready to assemble the shredder this week. That being said, the waterjet is back up (YES!) and our blades are being cut. The frame has also been cut!
We will commence welding next week and want to hold some related workshops if possible. This would be open to ALL members, be on the lookout for it!
3. Machines Update
a) Shredder
Most of the work will be done in the shop. I would encourage those interested in manufacturing and education to visit the shop during the day. The following will be done outside the shop (last weekend of July):
i. Assembly hopper (Angat has designed a safer hopper with a right-angled hood!)
ii. Painting (if being spray painted, parts will need to be sanded)
iii. Electrical
iv. Testing (when the shredder is done, Advocacy will plan a plastic drive so we can start shredding!)
b) Drawings
Members are continuing to compiling the finished CAD drawings (both soft and hard copies) for our records. Once we have the softcopy, we want to add the school logo as well as our own logo to the drawings.
We still have some drawings left to do. If interested, contact Patrick.
c) New Machine Design Suggestion
Managers for the Extruder and the Injector are drawing comparisons between the two machines. They’re going to try to design a machine to have the capacity to do both jobs. If you would like to be part of that, or have any suggestions – please don’t feel shy! Contact information for managers found below.
i. We will decide whether it will be worth it to go with one multipurpose machine or two separate machines during the SCRUM on July 27
4. Advocacy Update
Grace Wark has been doing an awesome job managing this project so far. Remember that connecting with her and knowing where to drop off any digital documents really helps us organize our progress! Please note that anything we intend to print must be a PDF.
a) Logo Competition
We have one submission so far! Please continue to submit your idea/draft/name either on Trello (see Advocacy card) or Google Drive (04 Advocacy -> Logo Competition Dropbox)
b) Tours
Recycling plant tours won’t be viable for us, but we are looking into being in contact with Green Calgary!
5. Education Update
a) Inspiration
Our ‘Inspiration’ section is growing! If you see anything online or want to jot down an idea, please do so! (It’s also anonymous unless you want to include a note with your name)
b) Website
Working together with Advocacy, Cassie will be taking a first crack and a website. While she’s drafting a content-based site, we would want to design the theme around our logo. (The more ideas we have at the end of the competition to sift through the better!)
c) Social Media
Call out to anyone who would be willing to manage our online presence (Facebook, Pinterest, etc)! Contact Grace, Tobin, or Cassie if interested.

Remember, SCRUMS are not work hours, they are delegation time. This is when we meet together to check on our progress and make sure that we’re on track. Being present and contributing your opinion makes all the difference and will shape each team’s decision for the rest of the week.
Good luck this week and we’ll meet again soon!
